What Makes for a Good Tech or Gadget Gift

Whether you are looking for something for someone for the holiday season, for a birthday or just as nice gift for nearly any type of occasion, no matter what store you go into or where you look online you are going to see all kinds of technology and gadgets today that can do just about anything that you want or claim to do all kinds of great things. With so many options out there, how can you figure out just what makes a good gift of technology and what does not? There are a few things you can keep in mind that can help you determine just what makes a good tech or gadget gift today.

Does it Pass the Dust Test?

This may seem a little strange but it is a good idea to consider when you are looking at technology as a gift. What may seem innovative, unique and cool to you may not necessarily be so someone else. You have to think of the gift as something that is going to be fun and practical to the person you are giving it to and not something that is just going to sit on a shelf or in the back of a closet somewhere collecting dust because they do not know what to do with it. Consider whether they gadget is something that is going to help make things easier or better for things that the person does all of the time to help determine whether it is really a good gift idea or not.

Consider What Goes Along with the Gift

While that gift may look great as the display is whirring around in the store, making noise, moving or supplying you with fun, information or whatever it does, you do need to consider something about it before you buy it for someone. Is this gadget something that is going to need a regular supply of refills or batteries? If it is something that a person is going to have to regularly put new batteries in, new cartridges or spend a lot of money on whatever type of refill that may be needed, this may not be the most practical of gifts. People do not tend to like something that is going to cost them a lot of time and money to keep using or that they have to keep buying additions for.

You want to be sure that the technology gift that you are giving to someone is something they are going to get a lot of use out of and always remember you for giving it to them (and that is for a good reason, not “Oh, HE gave me that thing”) so you want to make sure that you choose it wisely. Ask yourself if the gadget is an item they are really going to use well and get the most from it or is it just something that looks fun in the store. This can make a big difference between giving a great gift and giving something that is just going to take up space.
