IXL Combines Teaching and Technology for Kids

Before having kids I kind of had this vague dream we would be a low-tech family and everything would be about my kids using their imaginations and playing the “old-fashioned way.” Now that I have kids that dream has gone out the window and my three year old already has her own Nabi tablet.

With that being said, while I may now see the more of the benefits of having kids exposed to technology, I also want my kids to be using technology for good reasons. It can provide great learning opportunities and I found one program that can really be a fantastic way to help your kids learn while using a computer or mobile device and it’s called IXL.

IXL offers curriculum designed to be fun and engaging for kids from preschool up to 12th grade, so they’re learning without realizing it.

Here’s some benefits and background info about IXL:

Practice. Practice. Practice.

With unlimited questions in more than 4,000 math and English language arts skills, there is always something new and exciting to learn on IXL. Thanks to vibrant images, colorful illustrations, and meaningful content at every turn, learning has never been just so much fun.

Make learning fun

Piles of textbooks, stacks of worksheets—no wonder kids get frustrated with traditional schoolwork. They’d much rather be playing on the computer, so let them! They’ll enjoy interacting with IXL’s diverse practice formats and competing with friends to earn medals and awards. IXL’s iPad and Android tablet apps even make learning tangible, with enticing problems they can actually touch.

Excel on IXL. Excel in life.

Start your children on the road to success and help them become more confident students. You’ll appreciate how IXL tracks their progress and keeps you informed every step of the way. Watch and be amazed as they master new topics and become proficient in essential skills.

For Pre-K students there is an extensive list of things they should learn using IXL and it’s specifically designed to prepare them for kindergarten. What’s also unique about IXL is the fact that as children  learn skills using the program, it automatically becomes more difficult to keep up with their level of improvement.

Some of the Pre-K criteria includes identifying shapes, counting up to 20, comparing numbers and groups and understanding sizes and the differences in sizes.

Kids will have a lot of fun with IXL because they earn prizes for completing milestones, and if your child gets an answer wrong then IXL provides a detail explanation as to why that wasn’t correct. It’s a very visually-based website and kids can skip around and try all different kinds of skills.

In order to utilize the full IXL offerings there’s a monthly subscription fee of $9.99 per month, or you can get a family membership for $79 per year.
