The Future of In-Room Hotel Technology

When you travel you have a certain level of expectation when it comes to the hotel room you are staying in. You expect that there will be certain basic amenities to make your stay more comfortable, like a desk to work at, a coffeemaker in your room, Wi-Fi access and other basics that are found in most hotels today. With the ever-changing world of technology that exists today, hotels are constantly looking at ways to expand their offerings to supply greater and better technology in each room to make your stay more comfortable and make you choose their particular hotel to stay at. This has caused a big shift in the in-room technology provided today and how it is changing for the future. Here is a look at just a few things you can look forward to in hotels more often.

  • Mobile Keys – Mobile keys are something more hotel chains are investing in and rolling out in the near future. The notion is to have the key to your room on your cellphone so that you do not need a card or key to enter the room. The technology works on Bluetooth technology and an application that would be on your phone. It is just a matter of having your smartphone with you when you arrive at your room to open your door instead of having to worry about whether or not you brought your key with you each time you leave the room.
  • Power Source Options – The days of having to crawl underneath the desk or move the nightstand to find a plug to use are going to be over soon. Many hotels have opted to have connectivity panels in each room so that you can plug in your laptop, camera, iPod, smartphone and the like and have everything easy to access and charged. They are USB ports so you can easily charge devices without having to bring your adapter plugs everywhere and the panels are easy to access so you can reach it all simply.
  • Motion sensor activation – Instead of having to fumble around for the light switch when you get in at night, many hotels have motion sensors in the room so the lights will come on automatically based on your movement, making lighting your space faster and more convenient. Some hotels even have all of the technology in the room turn off when the room is unoccupied, saving energy for the hotel when the room is empty or you are out for the day.

Modern conveniences continue to be developed more and more so that technology and travel are more incorporated. Hotels have seen the importance of technology in the lives of most travelers and are trying to make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible by incorporating ways to make your life easier through the technology at the hotel. You should expect to see these and many other options begin to take hold in hotels in 2015 and beyond.
