Is Pepsi Selling Smartphones…In China?

You probably didn’t even know you wanted it. A Pepsi smartphone. I’m sure it’s been on your mind for ages, how much you need your cellphone provider to be the same as your soda beverage provider.

Well, wait no further: Pepsi Co is now selling its very own smartphone, and you can get it, in China.

According to IGN, the project comes from Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment Co., who have licensed Pepsi’s brand and is manufacturing the phone itself. The project is being crowdfunded via the website JD Finance, where–at the time of this writing–it’s gained over 12,000 supporters and nearly ¥1,350,000, which is about $212,200 in U.S. currency.

However, the project only has five days to complete its ¥3,000,000 goal, which is about $470,000 in U.S. currency. It’s unclear if, like some other crowdfunding sites, failing to reach its goal will forfeit the money the project has earned so far. But it seems like early pledges earned Pepsi phones that were as low as ¥499 to ¥699–or about $78 to $110–while current pledges still have the chance to get a Pepsi phone for ¥999, or about $156.

So far, the Pepsi phone comes in two versions: the P1 and the P1S, which both run on 4G and come with an Android OS. According to IGN:

Both phones run Android 5.1 Lollipop and come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display. The dual cameras feature a 13-megapixel sensor on the rear-facing side and 5-megapixel on the front. The phones will come in blue, gold or silver, and packed inside the phone will be 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory, a 1.7GHz and a 3000 milliamp-hour battery.
