Smart Biking Technology – The Cobi Bike System

More people, particular in the more urban areas of the country, are choosing alternative ways to get around town and back forth to work. Owning a car in a large city is not always the most practical thing in the world and it can be downright expensive if you are living on a tighter budget. This means a number of people are choosing to ride their bikes everywhere they go. It is not only a great way to save money and the environment but it is a consistent source of great exercise. Now technology has caught up with the biking trend and is offering the option of smart biking technology using the Cobi biking system.

What is the Cobi System?

Cobi is short for Connected Biking, providing the rider with a way to have the biking connected directly into the smart technology that is running rampant over society today. The system is quite simply, containing just the hub and a thumbstick controller for you to use and then there is an application that you download onto your smartphone so you can use the system while you ride. The hub of the system basically looks like a headlight for your bike and goes over the handlebars. The system does work as an LED light for your bike, which is important for you to have for extra safety when riding on the road in those early morning or evening hours. The system goes much further than just offering you a nice way to light your way on the road, however and has some great technological features to help you out.

Features of the Cobi System

The Cobi system can do a number of things for you to make your rising experience better. The system acts as an antitheft device for your bike with a light and alarm that get triggered when the system is set. The thumbstick controller for the system also sits on the handlebars and the hub provides you with a place to lock your smartphone into place on the handlebars so it can supply you with the information you may need while riding. The phone, when snapped into the hub, will get charged by the built-in battery on the hub. You then have the phone positioned in front of you so it can give you all kinds of information easily, including navigation and directions, a speedometer, fitness functions that you can use, audio and music controls and more. There are also plans for modular add-ons so you can have a brake light attached or turning signals.

The Cobi systems has a planned release of late in 2015 and basic kits will cost about $180, with costs rising the more options you add on to the system. This promises to be a great tool for regular bikers as it allows them to integrate the latest available in technology and safety into their riding and provide them with a “smart bike” without having to buy an entire new bike and use the transportation that they love.
